Boil water (with salt and/or olive oil) in a large saucepan. Immediately after boiling, add pasta and prepare dinner in 8-12 minutes, based on the form – see above. Drain and steam for just a few minutes, simply until the pasta looks translucent. Then add pasta sauce, pesto or just a little olive oil and seasoning. Combines quite well to coat and allow some of the sauce or dressing to seep into the pasta. Season with salt, pepper, and finely grated cheese like parmesan.

How do you prepare ‘al dente’ pasta dinner?

Step one is to make sure there is plenty of water in your pan. Use a large, rimmed saucepan and add at least 500ml or at most 1 quart of water per 100g of dry pasta (depending on the capacity of your pan). However, make sure there’s enough room overhead as you don’t need the water to foam and spill.

Bring a pan of water to a boil then add the pasta. When you want, or the recipe suggests, brine first, or if you choose, add a dash of olive oil.

After about 8 minutes of thorough boiling, remove the fish or noodles from the pan, let cool and style. If it’s prepared, remove the pasta from the heat immediately, if not add it in a minute then check again.

Most dry pasta strips are equivalent to pasta, pasta, and tagliatelle that take 8 to 10 minutes. Shorter, thicker pasta shapes like bow or penne take 10-12 minutes, and the modern pasta equivalent of ravioli and tortellini will be done in about 3-5 minutes.

As soon as the pasta is cooked, you need to remove it from the water and let it dry for a minute or two before mixing with any sauces or marinades. If the sauce you want is too thick, reserve some pasta water to thin it out.

Lasagne sheets or cannelloni tubes are made for baking as an alternative to boiling to ensure that the sauce you’re mixing or stuffing them with isn’t too dry as they may want to soak up some of the liquid when baking.
