How To Add A Crossbody Strap To A Tote

Adding a detachable shoulder strap to any off-the-shoulder garment, I love the stylish short handles on my new Miranda Day Bag. But sometimes I also want a shoulder strap. There’s no reason I can’t have both. Today, I want to show you this simple modification to add a detachable shoulder strap for your Miranda or other open bags. I fell in love with your exclusive line of purses and bags from Leisure Arts while working on my book Bold Bags last year. So I turned to these great products when I wanted to add a little fun and versatility to Miranda. Leisure Arts’ 27 exclusive wallet handles. Yum!Detachable shoulder strap It’s easy to add a removable shoulder strap to any open top. I used Leisure Arts’ awesome mocha faux leather 27-inch handle as the shoulder strap. Oh man, it suits my fabrics so well. The navy blue handle looks great too, but my heart belongs to the mocha on this one. And if your preference is long handles, use two of these in place of the stylish handles I used. Read more: how to see disappearing photos on instagram Silvertone Purse Hardware Assortment from Leisure Arts (section 28401).Hardware Blingy I used this packaged entertaining art set that includes a swivel keychain, a circular key ring, and a ball necklace. Be sure to coordinate the color of your hardware with your stylish handle if available. While I use these clasps, the larger 1-inch swivel clasp (item 28342) will also work. Add a swivel hook for more options.Where and how? This is a close-up image of the top and side of the bag. Attach your fabric or ribbon separately by stitching on top of the existing stitches. I have found some beautiful grosgrain ribbons that go well with my fabrics. I used the same ribbon to attach my Clover fashion handles as well as the swivel clasps. Cut a 3-4 inch ribbon or make a loop or loop out of the fabric. Thread the ribbon or fabric tab through the clasp and sew it to the lining of the bag. Use the stitches on the top edge of the bag, at the side seam as your guide. Your goal is to make the ribbon long enough to allow the entire hook to hang comfortably on the side of the bag as shown in the image above. If the loop is too short, the clasp will be awkwardly misaligned at the top edge of the bag when the shoulder strap is on the side.Stow and Go When not needed, I remove the shoulder strap, roll it up, and store it in the inner pocket. It’s so convenient! The clasps hang inside the bag, off at the side seams – great, thank you! Read more: How to play twinkling glitter starsFlexible Adding these clasps, or another option of your choice, is a nice feature. It gives you an option to attach a shoulder strap when desired. This is an extra option that you can use on any open bag.Flexibility And that cute little clip can clip onto other things like your cell phone or keys easily.
