I started thinking about this when looking at many 2011 and couldn’t justify the price no matter how hard I tried. Believe me, I’ve been trying for weeks to accumulate $2,000-3,000 to own one. When I thought about it harder, I said it couldn’t be that hard to build your own frame from an 80% frame and start from there. 45 ACP kits for cutting my teeth and then, after I had some experience, I switched to 2011. I ordered the kit from 1911 Builders for 80% less and ordered all all the other gear I needed to get the 1911 MUH for the Tactical FUDD Olympics and the boy was excited. The total cost of the kit for me is $1410.00.

Frame construction and mounting

Read more: how to hang pictures on a closet wall Perhaps the most important part of framing a frame is taking your time and not rushing into things because you want them done. As tempting as it may be, the key is to take things slowly and slowly complete the frame one step at a time. I decided to order a floor fixture for the frame. This fixture already has hammer and drill positions available so drilling holes is much easier. Having this fixture will also make it easier to lower the frame deck height and in the long run will make fitting much easier. Drilling holes for hammers and drills is easy with the fixed tool and hand filing down to deck height is quite a relaxing experience for me. Once the deck height is correct, you can now trim the crate seat to the frame. A number of different companies make barrel seat cutters that make it extremely easy to cut precise grooves into the frame.Once the bulk of the frame is complete, it’s time to make sure the slide and frame run correctly and fit the smaller components into the frame. Final Adjustment and Cerekoting

After completing most of the accessories, it’s all about making the gun feel as smooth as possible. Once I had the perfect fit, I didn’t want to remove any more material and decided to polish the sliders and contacts to make it as smooth as glass. One surprise I encountered was the hammer rubbing against the slide when it was tilted back. I rounded the top of the hammer just a bit. The hardest part is getting the overall fit between the slide and the frame correct so that after finishing the fine-tuning is quite quick. extra time and really important to the final fitment and getting that glassy smoothness. After two days of slow polishing in my pursuit of perfection, I felt the chassis was very good and Cerek took my parts for final assembly. When it comes to Cerekote, it’s important to remember that it adds thickness to the parts. As a result, parts may have to be lightly polished to get it back to that glass-like finish. I went back and hit a few different contacts with a light polish to get it back the way it was.

Overall thinking

When I first started this project, it was extremely difficult and I almost told myself before I started, but now that it’s done, I’m more proud of this than any AR that I’ve ever had. I used to build. It takes more focus and energy than building an AR but there is something special about creating something out of the labor of love. I built this watch in 1911 to work long with a 1911 mid-priced factory to see what the best deal for your money is.
