It just gives a super smooth finish, especially at the edges, to the patterned fabric on top.I used a stapling gun to attach the lining fabric on all four sides, then wrapped the fabric on top.I usually go crazy with a little staple gun to make sure everything is taught and flowing.I cut off the excess fabric, and for this piece I had extra fabric from the width of the bolt I bought it from, so I folded it up and covered it with wood. Then I chose a screw long enough to penetrate the plywood seat, but not too long to penetrate the top. I attached the chair with four screws, one each in the “corner”.You could say I finished the blue chair, but still need to finish the pink chair.
