Schluter’s KERDI Shower Kit is one of the best options for shower remodeling. But every shower project has its challenges and it’s easy to make bad mistakes, even with the KERDI shower set. KERDI Shower Kit Part 1: Getting Started

In this bathroom, we installed a 4 ′ x 5 shower and used a KERDI shower set; it includes a 48″ x 72″ bath pan, we cut to size. Our wall base is drywall and will be waterproofed with Schluter’s KERDI membrane. Btw, Schluter recommends drywall for this type of installation, but you can skip this step and use KERDI-BOARD. the system required a solid subfloor and in this example we had a 3/4″ plywood subfloor. Test the floor using a 4-foot pitch. It is important to install shower niches only inside interior walls. We had to cut the edge of the niche and customize it for this installation as our tile would run into it from the main wall. Cut and fit drywall around the nook and rest of the bathroom walls. It obliges the shower column walls to be made of plumbing and even together. Screw the drywall to the studs using a building code screw pitch and an acceptable screw length, we use 1-5/8 inch coarse threaded screws. Fits the drain hose of the shower. KERDI shower set Part 2: Waterproof wall

For this project we used Schluter’s ALL-SET which is a great thin adhesive grout for their bathroom. Mix ALL-SET according to the instructions; this is SUPER important to get the right consistency and longevity of the mortar. We use 6-1/2 liters of water for a bag of mortar. And mix the grout for 5 minutes, leave the grout for 10 minutes, mix another 3 minutes after slug. Yes we totally understand this is very specific but all new grout requires the directions to be followed by the letter ‘T’!! It helps to place a plumb line on the drywall to indicate where the KERDI membrane should stop. Once finished, take a damp sponge and wipe the drywall to remove dust and prevent the grout from setting too quickly. Then use the KERDI trowel to apply the mortar to the drywall surface. Apply ALL-SET in the direction of the wall to help eliminate air gaps and reduce all ridges in the grout. Compress the KERDI film to the wall, going from the ceiling to the floor. Remove air gaps and flatten KERDI with a KERDI trowel or a 6-inch drywall cutter. Stack all KERDI membranes by 2 inches. KERDI Shower Set Part 3: Waterproof Shower Pans & Brackets

We also used Schluter’s ALL-SET to glue the pan to the 3/4″ plywood using a 1/4″ x 3/8″ square trowel. All grout edges must face the same direction. Place the pan in the mortar, walk over it to compact the grout, and check for coverage by lifting the pan. Apply grout to the rim of the pan and to the first 6 inches of the pan where the curb will rest. Place the curb in the mortar and check that it is level, especially if using glass shower doors or glass panels that require curb height. Not a big deal, but the bottom of the bench should rest on plywood. Waterproof the bench using two outer corners and one inner corner, then overlap them with Kerdi-Band. Apply ALL-SET around the shower drain hose and stick it to the P-Trap below the shower tray. In our previous video, we discussed how to properly dry the drain and cut ABS to size. Cut the Kerdi film to the size of the pan and apply grout to the top of the Schluter bath pan, filling all Both the waffles are equal to the plane of the trowel. Then dip the Kerdi membrane in the top of the pan, and the scribe cuts it on the bench. Place Kerdi as tight as possible against the wall but don’t stress about its accuracy.
