Put it in the microwave
Today, we are very quick to choose technology to help us. In this case, there’s a cake at stake, so we’ll do whatever it takes to help! Just moisten a paper towel and lay it flat on the microwave’s glass dish. Place the cake on top and run the microwave on medium heat for about ten seconds until enough moisture is retained. The only trick with this handy little trick is that it only works if you’re ready to serve your pie right away. The humidification effect caused by using the microwave does not last long! This method is often referred to as ‘nuking.’
Add ‘simple’ syrup
Make your own simple syrup using only two ingredients in equal amounts – sugar and water. Once heated, the mixture turns into a thick syrup – perfect for pouring or crumbling. Mix your own home-brewed mix and decant into a spray bottle, then coat the cake. Make sure you spray only the exposed portion of the cake (anything that has been cut or opened) and if you haven’t cut the cake, use any thin sharp tool to make small holes in the cake, then small syrup into the cake. Allow three hours to absorb. SIGN: You can use many different liquids to add new flavors to your cakes through this method, such as coconut milk. This top tip is more suitable if you don’t plan to serve your roast right away.
Bread method
An easy way to moisten your cake is to use the traditional bread making method – and it couldn’t be simpler. Place a slice of white bread with your cake in an airtight bag for a few hours. You’ll know when the cake has absorbed all the moisture because it will harden! We love this method because it’s super convenient, as most people have a slice of white bread hanging around the cupboard. Of course, given the amount of time it takes to allow this process to happen, this is also a recommended approach if you don’t want to serve the cake right after it’s baked.
The apple method
Can’t spare a slice of bread? Why not try the apple method instead?! Just slice the apple and place it in an airtight bag for a few hours after dry baking. You should be aware that there may be some apple flavor infused into your freshly moistened pie, so keep that in mind when choosing an apple flavor. Even so, who doesn’t love an apple pie, right?
