This quick guide will guide you through all the steps needed to update a Windows-based RUST server. On the first Thursday of every month, Facepunch releases a new game update to the RUST community. Each update requires players and servers to update their version of the game in order to play. As a RUST server owner, you must update your server once this server update becomes available. Players won’t be able to join your server due to the game’s software version mismatch, so you should update as soon as possible for your server population. their server. Pre-request for updates

SteamCMD for Windows must be installed
Install a Windows-based dedicated RUST server

Locate the SteamCMD executable on your local Windows machine

Locate your steamCMD installation. If you followed our RUST Host a RUST Dedicated Server guide, you should see a SteamCMD installation on your C: drive.
Double-click the SteamCMD executable to run SteamCMD (can be seen as the one highlighted in the screenshot above).
A console window will open and start looking for updates. Once the update is done (if an update is found), you’ll be taken to a SteamCMD prompt.
Log in anonymously with the following command:

Step 2 – Set Update Folder for RUST . Dedicated Server

Rust server installation directory will be present topqa.info

Locate the RUST Server installation. If you followed our RUST Host a RUST Dedicated Server guide, your server will be located at C:steamcmdrust_server.
You will recognize your server’s installation directory by the presence of the topqa.info executable (see screenshot above).
Next, set the install location for the update by entering the following command into SteamCMD:

The above command tells SteamCMD where the RUST server is located to compare versions.
Please note: If you give your directory a different name, please use that name instead of “rust_server” in the command above.

Step 3 – Updating the RUST . Dedicated Server

Start the update process by entering the following command into SteamCMD:

app_update 258550 authentication

SteamCMD will now start downloading the latest version of the RUST dedicated server.
Important Note: 258550 is the application id for RUST-if you don’t specify this exact ID you will get an error.
Allow the update to run until it’s done. The update process may take a while depending on server capabilities and network bandwidth.
If you have updated a modified server, you MUST install uMod (oxide) after the update is complete. Updates will be written on oxide files and a new uMod version is required to match the new Rust server version.
