Overcast skies, chilly weather, rain and snow don’t exactly make you scream, “SO, I want to wear a dress today!” Unless you can stock your wardrobe with cozy woolen dresses, skirts are often not the warmest option. But you know, sometimes you have a meeting or an event coming up where you need to wear a dress, or sometimes you just want to weather the winter and start things off by wearing a dress. 1. Wear a camisole and add a layer of ao dai underneath. I mentioned these in my post How I stay warm in winter while trying to look cute. I wear a camisole to keep my core warm and an extra long sleeve HEATTECH from Uniqlo. Those are super thin but add a little warmth to shirts and dresses during the colder months. They have slightly shorter sleeves for the purpose of hiding under clothes, and I get the turtleneck versions rather than the turtlenecks for the same reason. I wear these in size M which fit me well without forcing me. 2. Wear fleece-lined socks or stockings instead of regular stockings. Did you know fleece pantyhose is a thing? My sister told me about them when I was in high school, but I found out that not everyone knows about them. You need to know about them!! Fleece pantyhose are thicker than regular stockings and lined with fleece. (Duh.) They’re not as warm as pants, but if you have to wear a dress, fleece pantyhose are the way to go. I wear a pair of Bare N Essentials that I bought years ago and can’t find anywhere else online. They are expensive (IMO) $30, but considering I’ve used them for years, washed them and never had to change them, I’d say it’s well worth it. now and much cheaper for $15 or less, all with good reviews:

3. Wear a pair of panties to prevent the dress from sticking to your tights. Certain types of skirts, such as the soft Old Navy “pijama nightgown” that I talk about and are wearing for most of the outfits in this post, tend to cling to tights. Your dress will look messy, but a slip will fix that. Plus, it will be an extra layer to keep you a little warmer. I’m telling you that helps a bit! My favorite coupons are from Target and are no longer available because they have been replaced with THIS. I personally haven’t tried these but they look exactly like the ones I have. Taller boots will keep your feet much warmer, so if it’s really cold, wear those whenever you can instead of ankle boots, oxfords or anything else. . You can also add boot socks to high-heeled boots for extra warmth. Imagine fleece pantyhose + stockings + boots? Starting to sound warm, right?
5. Layer scarves, finishes, and jackets on top. This probably goes without saying, but I thought I’d mention it anyway. Adding all of these on top of your dress will not only pull your outfit together, but will also keep you a lot warmer. I had an outer jacket to walk about half a mile in the cold. I did all the things I mentioned above, with camisoles, fleece-lined stockings, … except the ankle boots instead of the taller ones. I’m surprised I didn’t freeze! Hopefully this helps you use some of your outfits this winter! most under $30! The first row (plus Option 9) are all soft dresses that feel like pajamas.
