The original animated version has it all: a strong female lead, funny characters, fighting action, and a great soundtrack. The same cannot be said about Disney’s new live-action remake. The plot and the choices the production team made confounded me throughout the film, but several scenes reminiscent of 1998’s “Mulan” brought back fond memories. There are some positives to the film. One of the goals of the new version was to depict the true story of Mulan, and it succeeded to a certain extent – more accurately than the 1998 version but not entirely faithful to the “Ballad of the Wild”. Mulan”. Great fun, Disney. Plus, the new movie is beautiful, from the beautiful scenery to the ornate costumes and decorations. Adding to the aesthetic appeal is the engaging and elaborate choreography of the fight scenes. However, I kept debating whether the movie was about Mulan or some war epic. The film’s final and most notable specialist is the all-Asian American cast. It is refreshing to see the emergence of Asian actors in American cinema. While the powerful instrumental adaptation of the song “Reflection” played as Mulan in action made me smile, I missed singing along to iconic songs from the 1998 version, which provided deeper knowledge in Mulan’s mind. Those subtly sexist songs have a special place in my heart. Also, my favorite character, Mushu, has been completely cut from the 2020 movie, commander Li Shang is replaced with derpy draftee “Chen Honghui” as Mulan’s love interest and new characters like suit Water and phoenix have been added to the movie. The exclusion of Mushu from the film was detrimental to the film in a number of ways. His absence from the comics further accentuates the film’s war epic theme, and the absence of friendship between him and Mulan severely hampers her character development. His new love affair, Honghui, makes the movie even more messy: I’m hooked on the awkwardness between him and Mulan (*cough cough* that weird hand-holding scene). In the end, my main problem with this movie is the rushed storyline. I feel that the aim of the film is to fit as many scenes and characters as possible, which largely reduces the quality of the film. Nothing is fully developed, which leads to a lack of emotional depth Read more: There are some people who call me time I think it is worth mentioning that there is some controversy behind this film that causes people to boycott when watch movie. These include the lead actress Liu Yifei’s support for Hong Kong police’s violent crackdown on pro-democracy protests and the filming of the film in the same area where Uighur Muslims live. forced into an internment camp. Disney has faced backlash and suffered consequences from these decisions, but ultimately viewers decide whether to watch the movie or not. Although the remake of the classic animated film did not live up to my expectations, I think those who have happy childhood memories of 1998’s “Mulan” will enjoy this movie and can enjoy it. fun when discovering new parts of the story.Credit: topqa.info/big.php?i=1100642 Aditi Dahagam can be contacted at [email protected] more: Who taught the first teacher
