Expect the Vikings, and especially a potentially dominant defensive force, to improve overall in 2016 even if they fail to keep the NFC North crown.Chicago Bears (7-9): Coach John Fox’s record shows an improvement of 4-5 wins in his second season. This defense can mature into a formidable horde now that the 3-4 formation has taken root and has the personnel to execute it. But there seem to be too many annoying problems for the Bear to make a playoff kick.Detroit Lions (7-9): They were one of the strongest teams in the league in the second half of 2015 following a 1-7 start. But they will likely have to accept a difficult philosophical shift as they embark on life after Calvin Johnson.NFC MENCarolina Panthers (May 11): Don’t expect another 15-win campaign for the NFC champions, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t a threat to winning the Super Bowl. The league’s top-scoring attack could be even more dangerous with the return of WR Kelvin Benjamin, but the defense could take a step back with a new secondary.Atlanta Falcons (7-9): QB Matt Ryan and defense had to be a lot more efficient after coming upstream (6-1 start) and knockdown (2-7 finish). Road games in Oakland, Denver and Seattle for see Atlanta may be a year away.New Orleans Saints (7-9): Attack has always been the top outfit under coach Sean Payton and QB Drew Brees. If RB David Johnson is close to meeting expectations, last year’s No. 1 could average close to 35 points per week. Seattle Seahawks (May 11): The Legion of Boom-led defense has scored the fewest points in the league in four years running. Flip the trick in 2016 (or even so soon), and Seattle will have its fifth consecutive playoff run no matter how difficult the transition the offense has to go through.Los Angeles Rams (5-11): Rookie defender – let’s say #1 pick Jared Goff starts. The new city – and the challenging logistics of the franchise awaits a new stadium and permanent practice facility. The schedule is tough – and that includes a trip to London after a road trip to Detroit. Don’t be surprised if the Rams aren’t an instant box office breakout in Hollywood even if expectations are high.San Francisco 49ers (2-14): Chip Kelly inherited a team with less talent than he had in Philadelphia… in a tougher division… plus a schedule that included four trips to the East Coast.POWER BANK:Who’s on top to start the season? Hopefully they’ll survive his month-long absence and be able to stitch the Jimmy Garoppolo Experience into a 2017 bidding war for teams needing midfield holdings elsewhere in the league.Buffalo Bills (8-8): They will have their final game at the Brady-less Patriots in Week 4 as they enter the potentially important five roadies in the seven-game stretch. Survive that, and perhaps they will eventually be tied to the knockout stages for the first time in the 21st century.New York Jets (8-8): Regardless of who is at the center, they face a tough climb with the Bengals, Bills, Chiefs, Seahawks, Steelers and Cardinals as the first six opponents on the schedule. And unlike the Bills and Dolphins, the Jets will pull Brady (presumably very motivated) twice during the regular season.Miami Dolphins (7-9): A new mode will open with road games in September in Seattle, New England and Cincinnati. It hasn’t been easy for rookie head coach Adam Gase to start his program with a group of talented but consistently underperforming team in recent years.AFC NORTHPittsburgh Steelers (April 12): Even if they only get RB Le’Veon Bell suspended from the field for 12 games, the offense has the potential to drop 40 points for anyone, assuming the crippling injury can eventually be avoided. And if revenue-generating defenses improve slightly over the pass, this could be the year to build a seventh Lombardi Trophy.Cincinnati Bengals (May 11): There’s little reason to believe they won’t make the playoffs for a sixth year in a row, especially if the healthy Andy Dalton continues to progress. But will they finally land the long-awaited breakthrough after the season for coach Marvin Lewis?Baltimore Raven (9-7): They’ve only missed the playoffs twice in eight years under John Harbaugh, so there’s reason they’ll be back on the hunt a year after losing 20 injured substitutes. But December will be a pivotal time as Raven face the Patriots, Steelers and Bengals on their way to the end of the season.Cleveland Browns (1-15): It will take some time for the analysis to come to fruition, and this year’s crop doesn’t look promising.AFC NAMHouston Texans (9-7): Coach Bill O’Brien finally seems to have the full range of offensive weapons he could only dream of in his first two seasons. Houston will probably need new QB Brock Osweiler and RB Lamar Miller to integrate quickly with a defense that will almost certainly suffer early in the season as JJ Watt recovers from back surgery.Jacksonville Jaguars (9-7): No one is going to look down on them anymore, especially after QB Blake Bortles’ breakthrough in 2015 seems to have catapulted him into one of the game’s rising stars. Yes, QB Andrew Luck is rich and healthy, but it remains to be seen how he adapts to another book and makes up for what appears to be a weak defense in a dramatically improved division. Tennessee Titans (2-14): When it comes to improving on paper, they may not make as many strides as their other rivals in the AFC South. The Vikings, Raiders, Packers, and Broncos are part of the fearsome lineup of visitors visiting Nashville this season.AFC WESTOakland Raiders (10-6): Despite their volatile civilian situation, the arrow appeared to be pointing straight up in an area where the Broncos looked poised for downfall. The Raiders have only faced one 2015 playoff team in the first half of this season and have a golden opportunity to get off to a hot start.Kansas City Chiefs (9-7): The reintegration of RB Jamaal Charles into a squad that won 11 consecutive games without him in 2015 would signal an optimistic outlook. But CVB Justin Houston (knee surgery) is a big question, and this team needs all its stars in a year where they have to go to Houston (probably not the friendly venue in 2016). , Pittsburgh and Carolina.Denver Broncos (8-8): The uncertainty in midfield is enough to expect a setback even if it’s worth noting the meager output Peyton Manning gave them in 2015.
