Isaiah’s message of hope combines with the assurance that God will confiscate His people from Elam (Is 11:11). Through Isaiah 21:2 and 22:6 Elam’s power in battle is mentioned. Elam was asked to go to Babylon (Isaiah 21:1). Another biblical point regarding Elam is the mention of contributing to God’s judgment on Judah. Jeremiah 25:25 considers Elam a people that ‘must drink from the cup of God’s wrath’. Then Jeremiah during the Zedekiah period proclaimed judgment against Elam. No reason was given for it; however Elam, working under Babylon may have been involved in the invasion of Jerusalem. Ezekiel describes Elam inside the ‘pit’ (Sheol), where it was shamed and disciplined for having destroyed so much (Ezekiel 32:24). An intriguing sign were the men from Elam, who were there on the day of Pentecost. They may have been Jews descended from Elam or brought to Judaism (Acts 2:9).
