Elam (meaning forever in Hebrew) was one of the sons of Shem, the son of Noah. Jeremiah 25:25 considers Elam a people that ‘must drink from the cup of God’s wrath’. Then Jeremiah during the Zedekiah period proclaimed judgment against Elam. No reason was given for it; however Elam, working under Babylon may have been involved in the invasion of Jerusalem. Ezekiel describes Elam inside the ‘pit’ (Sheol), where it was shamed and disciplined for having destroyed so much (Ezekiel 32:24). An intriguing sign were the men from Elam, who were there on the day of Pentecost. They may have been Jews descended from Elam or brought to Judaism (Acts 2:9).
