How To Rebuild A Hydraulic Cylinder

There are many types of hydraulic cylinders, but the procedure for inspecting and repacking them is generally the same. There are several signs that your hydraulic cylinder needs to be repackaged:

  • Difficulty lifting a load or moving a component (not moving as fast as it should)
  • Deployment leaked faster than usual
  • Cylinders have an external oil leak – they can leak and still have power

How to check the cylinder

Step 1: Fill hydraulic fluid on both sides of the cylinder. PREPARATION

Hydraulics are an important and expensive part of construction and farming equipment. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when working on cylinders to prevent costly damage:

  • Make sure your bar is straight
  • Make sure that the inside of the barrel surfaces have the proper cross expansion
  • Make sure there are no scars or gouges
  • Make sure that the chrome plating on the bar is not damaged and if there are slight scratches, make sure that there are no raised burrs

Once it has been disconnected, you will need to open the ports and drain the hydraulic fluid present in the cylinder. You will need a seal kit, rubber mallet, screwdriver, hole punch, pliers, wrench, allen wrench, emery cloth and torque wrench.

STEPS TO REPAIR YOUR CHAIN

  • Release all pressure and remove the cylinder from the machine.
  • Clean dirt accumulated on cylinder head and end cap
  • Remove the bar assembly as described in the next step depending on the application.
  • Remove the outer wire ring or open the end cap (This may require removing the allen bolt)
  • Grab your rubber mallet and punch the washer cylinder. Use them to push the inlet into the cylinder tube until the inner tube groove is fully exposed. This will put the washer in place so you can remove it.
  • Pull the piston rod out of the cylinder.
  • Remove the lock nut.
  • Remove the piston.
  • Check the grooves on the cylinder bar, piston and bore. If necessary, remove the burrs with an emery cloth.
  • Make sure the cylinder bar is straight
  • Install new seals and replace components as necessary.
  • Install the cap and washer, followed by the piston and washer. Torque lock nut according to specifications.
  • Gently clamp the cylinder body in the vise.
  • Lubricating barrel and all seals to begin assembly.
  • Insert the piston, gland, and connecting rod assembly into the cylinder bore.
  • Tighten the cylinder end cap and torque screw or install washers depending on the application.
