Now use a 10mm socket to loosen the clamp on the negative battery cable (black). Pull the clamp out, then move it where it can’t accidentally touch the battery terminal. Repeat this for the positive battery cable. After disconnecting the battery cable and vacuum hose, carefully lift the old battery and move it to a safe and dry location.

Step 4 – Insert a new battery

Place the new battery in the bottom of the body, so that the terminal posts are facing the correct battery cable. Reconnect the vacuum tube. Reconnect the positive battery cable, then connect the negative battery cable. Before putting everything away, write down the BEM code on your new battery. Replace the brackets and tighten the bolts to the brackets. Replace tool tray, spare tire tray, spare tire. The car will run even if it hasn’t been coded for a new battery.
