How To Refill Soap Dispenser In Kitchen Sink
Today’s tip is quick and easy. Almost TOO quick and easy! I argued back and forth about devoting an entire blog post to explaining this tip, but I was so excited about how well it worked that I decided to go ahead and post about it. ???? I can’t help but get excited when I discover the solution to a problem that’s been giving me a headache! This particular issue has to do with the built-in dish soap pump that comes with my kitchen faucet.
When I got this faucet for my kitchen sink a year ago, I loved the idea of having a built-in soap dispenser! But in practice, the soap dispenser didn’t hold much soap at first, which meant I found myself having to refill it quite often. And the soap-filling process isn’t much fun. I had to stand on the floor to find my way back under the sink to get the reservoir, then replace it once it was full. I actually stopped loading it for a while, just because it made me nervous! But a week ago, I met one of those “AHA!” That glare. moment. I thought to myself… instead of constantly refilling the small soap dispenser, why don’t I adjust it so that the soap pump draws from a much larger soap source? Bringing my idea and the soap dispenser from my sink, I head to the hardware store to gather my supplies. And after I finished, my soap making machine idea worked like a dream.
Here’s how you can do it yourself:

- A big bottle of soap
- Length of transparent vinyl tube
First, you will have to determine the size of the vinyl tube that will fit your particular soap dispenser. In the end, I just took my soap dispenser pump with me to the home appliance store, just to make sure I found one that would fit perfectly. The hose that fits my pump is 1/4 inch in diameter. Remove the sturdy plastic hose attached to the soap pump and slide it onto one end of your clear vinyl hose. Make sure it fits snugly so it doesn’t come loose and leak the soap all over the place!
Slide the soap tube down through the soap dispenser hole in your sink.

Take the other end of the vinyl tube and insert it into the opening of a large bottle of dish soap. Make sure the end of the tube rests against the bottom of the bottle, so you’ll be able to use it all without adjusting the tube. If your tube is a bit too long, simply use scissors to trim the excess length. I ended up using about a yard of hose, so maybe buy 4 or 5 feet, just in case. (The one I bought at the hardware store was only $0.50 a foot, so buying more definitely won’t break the bank!) And that’s all it takes!
