Parking in Venice Where to park in Venice, on mainland Italy, or on the Lido di Venezia. When you arrive at the historic center of Venice, you need to park your car until you are ready to leave. Need a car-friendly hotel? See: Your Venice parking options fall under four headings:

On the edge of the historic center, in the parking lots on Tronchetto (an artificial island designed for parking) or at Piazzale Roma (the last stop for cars, taxis and buses to Venice).
On land, off the causeway that connects Venice with Mestre, Marghera, Marco Polo Airport, and other locations on the “terrafirma” (as the Venetians refer to the mainland).
On the Lido di Venezia, a car-friendly strip of islands of beaches, resort hotels and villas separates the Venetian Lagoon from the Adriatic Sea. (You can get to Lido by a rather expensive car ferry, and your hotel on Lido will give you advice on where to park.)

In this article, we’ll focus on the most popular options: expensive parking next to the historic center, parking near the marinas, and cheaper parking on mainland Venice.

The Tronchetto, which has a huge garage and massive parking lots, has thousands of spaces for cars, campers and buses. You’ll see the exit for the Tronchetto upon reaching Venice on the causeway from the mainland. The island is easy to navigate and it’s best if you want to park close to the center and don’t mind paying a daily fee of €21 or more. From Tronchetto, you can take an inexpensive People Mover to Piazzale Roma or catch a vaporetto to other locations downtown. See our Tronchetto Garage article for more information.
Marittima, the larger of Venice’s two main yachting basins. Rates per week are a few euros more than in Tronchetto for long-term parking, but the convenience can be worth the modest additional cost if you’re taking a round-trip cruise from Venice.
Piazzale Roma, a large square packed with city and suburban buses, tour vans, taxis and cars. It has some expensive garages, such as the San Marco Garage (where you’ll pay a fee when staying within walking distance of downtown).

In mainland Venice, your best bets are:

Park your car at your hotel in Mestre or Marghera (see list), where you can take the train, city bus or T1 tram to Venice. We personally like the Best Western Plus Hotel Bologna, an attractive, modern 110-year-old hotel directly across from the Mestre train station.
Parcheggi San Giuliano, in Parco San Giuliano at the foot of the causeway leading to Venice. You can park at “Porta Gialla” or “Yellow Gate” for around €5 per day and catch a tram, bus or boat to Venice. See our San Giuliano Parking lot article for details, pictures, and maps.

Other less convenient locations include:

Public parking near Mestre railway station. Mestre has a number of lots and garages, but finding them can be frustrating and you could waste time that should have been spent sightseeing.
Park in more inland areas, such as Fusina and Punta Sabbioni. These alternatives are worth considering at particularly busy times of the year when you might be worried about finding a parking spot closer to the city.

Parking at Venice’s Tessera Airport (Airport) If you park at Venice’s Marco Polo Airport, you can use the regular airport bus or airport boat to get to the centro storico. Prices are reasonable by Venice standards, although you’ll want to park long enough to cut down on the cost of public transport to and from the city.
