The zoom effect is arguably one of the most used effects in Premiere. I constantly use zoom to crop into one clip or to add a little movement to another still clip. Today we’ll take a guided tour around creating a zoom effect in a Premiere, and then I’ll show you how to incorporate that zoom into the transition. Start!

Step 1: Add your Clip to Timeline

To create the zoom effect in Premiere Pro, we will use keyframes for the zoom and position parameters. First, let’s start by adding our images or footage to the Premiere Pro timeline.

Step 2: Add Keyframe to Scale and Position

Next, with the clip selected, we’ll navigate to the FIRST frame of the clip. This will be where our FIRST keyframe will be located. In our effect control window, click the stopwatch icon next to RATIO and POSITION parameter. You just added your first keyframe for the clip’s scale and position.

Step 3: Create & Polish the Zoom

After you click and enable the stopwatch for a parameter, Premiere automatically adds keyframes when a parameter is adjusted. So all we have to do now is navigate to the FINAL frame of the clip and adjust the scale and position parameters. Make sure you create the position to where you want to shoot the final scene, as Premiere will automatically interpret the movement as a zoom between the two keyframes.
