How to install stair handrail to attach railings to accessories and newel posts?Accessories that include rail bolts are 3-1/2” hanger bolts with nuts and washers. Measure 3/4” up from the bottom of the fitting or stair rail, drill a 1/4” pin to receive the wooden threaded end of the rail bolt. Let the rails extend at least 1-1/2” above the fittings or handrails. Measure 1-1/2” from the receiving end, drill a 1” hole about 1-1/2” deep in the railing. Again, from the edge of the handrail, measure up to the 3/4″ center and drill at least one 7/16″ hole in the receiver to the 1″ hole. The rails and coupling are then glued, aligned, and using a 1/2” self-contained wrench or a 2900W rail dowel wrench, the two-piece nut and washer come together.
