What is fruit salt?

Contents

Fruit salt is basically an antacid commonly used to treat acid problems.

What is Eno?

Eno is a brand of fruit salt and the most popular brand of fruit salt on the market. People use Eno as some kind of magic potion without realizing it’s actually baking soda with citric acid. I know someone who is very much against baking soda in the house but is comfortable using Eno. Strange but true!

Use

  • It Commonly used both in the first aid box and in the kitchen.
  • To handle acidity,
  • For instant fermentation of food items and really helpful in making idli, dhokla etc. No need to wait for hours, we can easily ferment the dough within minutes and we get the cakes beautiful cotton.

Element

  • In fact, if you look at Eno’s composition, you’ll see that Eno is 60% baking soda and 40% citric acid. There’s also some salt ratio, but we won’t consider it here because the dishes we prepare often have added salt.
  • Therefore, the combination of using these two ingredients gives the same effect as Eno. Instead of lemon juice, you can also use citric acid or some other sourer like vinegar.

  • Mix everything in a bowl.
  • Your homemade Eno fruit salt is ready.
  • Fill it into an airtight container.
  • Use it exactly the same way you would use a store-bought Eno.

Tip: 1. Do only in small quantities and only let it dry completely in an airtight bottle. This is because when mixing, the citric acid and the baking soda react with each other, and so the mixture becomes solid. This is why, ready-made Eno in a bottle also becomes solid after a while. And so they came up with packages. So you should also keep citric acid and baking soda separate and only mix in small amounts. Shake this bottle once a week. This way, if any solidification has started, will be dispersed. If shaking is not possible, use a spatula/knife to mix. B. Serve immediately with lemon juice

In this method, the ingredients are mixed as and when needed. This Eno is not stored in a bottle but is made to order and when needed I like this method. The steps to do are as follows:

  • We add Eno at the end just before steaming. So in this case, when you’re done with the dough, sprinkle the baking soda on top and squeeze the lemon on top. As soon as you add lemon juice, you will see a reaction…. the bubbles all over. Now gently mix it and steam it.
  • Or, You can take Baking soda into a bowl, add lemon juice and then put this mixture on the dough. Either way, you can use it.
  • You have to use it just like you use Eno. Whatever amount of Eno you use, just take as much Baking soda and squeeze lemon juice on top. You can also use distilled white vinegar in place of lemon juice.
  • For 200 grams of semolina, use 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda and squeeze 1 teaspoon of lemon juice. Idlis came out perfect as you can see in the photo. So,

In 200 ml of water, add 1/8 teaspoon Salt + 1 teaspoon lemon juice + 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
