Pitera – Ferment Filtrate

Almost everyone knows what mushrooms are. Mushrooms are the first thing people think of. We eat them. People grow them. They appear naturally in our garden after it rains. The old saying is ‘Mushrooms are in us’. As a mycologist, I have a lot of puns. Strictly speaking, Pitera is a fermented yeast filtrate developed and patented by SK-II, a Japanese skin care company. Fungal filtrate is a very broad definition. Typically, it is considered a growth medium (or growth fluid) that contains the by-products produced by the fungus. I used a fungal filtrate to test for toxin production in a group of mushrooms that I was testing. We can produce specific chemicals using a fungal filtrate, such as yeast that can produce insulin (although insulin is usually produced using bacteria. bacterial filter).Untitled-1.jpgDeveloped by @AnnePorter at topqa.info/@anneporter Speaking of fungicides and yeasts, name a wine. Think twice about your favorite wine. It is a fungal filtrate. For beer, the growth medium is made from barley, malt extract, and hops (possibly some other flavoring agent). Then yeast is added and the yeast ferments the sugar and makes alcohol and some beer is filtered and some is not. The same goes for wine and sake. Alcohol is also a filtered fungal filtrate. Hopefully this is a clearer understanding of fungal filtrate. Fungal filtrate can cover anything under the sun. Sugars, peptides, amino acids, vitamins, etc. can all be present in the fungal filtrate and concentrations of that solution can also be ubiquitous. That’s why most ingredient lists will refer to it as mushroom filtrate instead of naming individual ingredients. Scientifically we call this the unknown medium, we cannot determine the concentration of the individual components. K-II is probably the best known company that uses fungal filtrate as the basis of their product line. Derm Review did a quick review of what Pitera is and how SK-II made the discovery. I am copying the appropriate text here but the full text can be found here: The manufacturer claims that the uniqueness of Pitera comes from the nutrient-rich organic compounds found in the natural composition. course. Their research shows that this chemical, being a clear liquid, carries an abundance of vitamins, minerals and amino acids. Ingredients like these are often thought to be helpful for healthy skin, because they provide skin cells with the nutrition they need to regenerate themselves and supply amino acids to repair structures. damaged proteins in the skin. Using this research, the founders of SK-II have developed various products to infuse Pitera compounds into the skin in an effort to stimulate cell repair and promote skin renewal. more fruitful. enjoy doing the 60 day SK-II challenge. What the company claims is entirely possible; however, this is with long term continuous use which means for years not months. Remember these sake brewers have ‘used’ this mushroom filtrate for decades. SK-II began their mushroom refining journey in the 1970s after observing the hands of sake brewers (see wine!) whose older hands were less visible than their faces. Sake makers in Japan started at a young age and treated it like a trade in America. Not much has changed, so these brewers have spent decades soaking their hands in this fungal filtrate. Here is a YouTube video on traditional sake brewing methods showing the brewers at play how to make koji (mushroom + rice) and the final product, sake, and how they come in contact with the products. mushroom by-products. A less complete version is also found on the International Sake Association’s YT page, if you look closely, you’ll notice that their hands are much less wrinkled than their faces, just like what SK-II found. see. At one point, there appeared to be a difference of nearly 30 years between the age of an elderly man’s face and the age of his hands. Rejoice acne sufferers, Galactomyces fermentation filtrate (GFF; galactomyces is a genus of fungi) showed a significant reduction in sebum production, pore size and keratin when applied 3 times as a solution. 97%. This study is published in Korean but even if you can’t read Korean, you can still understand a bit from the study because there is some English in it. The study used 100 participants and used what seems to be industry standard procedure, so overall a well done study if it’s a blind one. GFF has also been shown to reduce melanization and oxidation in epidermal cells. It can also reduce the harmful effects of UVB rays on the skin, but I could only find one citation, not the entire article. Lesson 1: Skin care is long-term. The younger you start, the better the long-term results. Starting in your teens with sunscreen and preventing damage is a BIG step that the Japanese also take very seriously. In fact, you will often find manual workers wearing white cotton gloves when outdoors to avoid exposure to the sun. The membrane of mushrooms contains many vitamins, proteins, amino acids and everything our skin can use to age gracefully. Wrinkles will occur. But helping them happen as late as possible and as best as possible will help reduce our true age. How old is Angela Bassett exactly? Not even close to how old her skin looks. She started her incredible skincare routine in the mid-’90s, and that effort is clearly showing now. Thankfully, it doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Products that use fungal filtrate Concentration will be key for fungal filtrate. If it’s too low, you won’t get any real benefit from the nutrients available. For these fungicides to work, they need to be listed in the top 5 ingredients of your skin care product. With Essense it needs to be listed on the #1 ingredient list. Often an essence will state the actual percentage on the package. Look for essences with more than 95% fungal filtrate. Some fungal filtrate exists. The most commonly used is the galactomyces fermentation filtrate or GFF. Their website claims cult tracking status and it’s totally true. The entire Pitera line at SK-II includes the same high concentrations of GFF as those independently tested. To see that line including trial sets, click here. Pitera Essence retails for $99-$290 on their website. The size pictured is 230 ml which retails for $229 on their website. It is possible to buy this from several distributors but I found the SK-II website to be the cheapest. I apply double essense using about 5 ml a day. This bottle has been with me for about 3 months. The serum also contains a high concentration of GFF consistent with what has been independently tested. However, the toner only contains 10% so its effect will not come close to the science. If you choose one, choose nature. You can check it out here. Essence retails for about $21 Another easy-to-pay serum is Benton’s Fermented Essence. It retails for about $27 for 100 ml. I have not used this product personally, but the reviews are generally positive. This product is vegan, cruelty-free, and contains ceramides and hyaluronic acid in its formula that will help moisturize and rebuild cellular integrity on top of what GFF has to offer. This product also contains niacinamide (Vitamin B3) to help reduce pore size and other botanical extracts to reduce inflammation. The Rose version also contains rose extract that aids in hydration. This is my essence of GFF. Other mushrooms have been fermented and filtered for skin care use. One is Bifida. If the name is familiar, it should be. Bifida conditioning is what helps you to maintain a ‘regular’ condition. Activeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Manyo factory also produces bifida filtrate such as Bifida Ferment Complex High Concentrate Serum which also contains lactobacillus filtrate and ginseng extract. I have been using Secret Key’s Essence for about a year now. I can say I have seen a huge improvement in skin texture, luminosity and clarity. I’m excited to see what happens next year as I continue to use it. This type of product won’t be the one to solve every skincare problem and leave you with flawless glassy skin. That being said, it can improve dramatically after long-term use. I wouldn’t suggest ditching it after a month, this is a product you have to use for at least a year before you see benefits.
